I was watching YouTube when I came across a video about chicken noodle soup.
Fortunately, I had some chicken thighs from Costco, so I decided to try making it myself.
While prepping the chicken, I found some thigh bones, and since there was plenty of meat, I spent some time thinking about what to do with the leftovers.
I decided to start by making a broth, so I added water to the pot and began boiling it.
As I was doing that, I remembered the chicken porridge I used to eat a lot when I was a child, so I decided to make that as well.
Chicken Porridge (Dakjuk)
- Pour water into a pot, add the chicken bones and the leftover chicken from the chicken noodle soup, and bring it to a boil.
- Once the broth starts to form, add the uncooked rice, whole garlic cloves, and a little salt and pepper, then continue to boil.
- Once the rice has cooked and expanded, it’s ready! (If the water level gets low during cooking, continue to add water as needed.)
I made the seasoning sauce with the thought of it being for two servings, but while eating, I felt it was a bit bland.
It felt more like one serving. I realized that next time, I should make more.
The vinegar is the key point; without it, the dish is very greasy, but the vinegar really balances the flavor.
Chicken porridge is always delicious.
If you don’t have chicken, you can still make a great chicken porridge using just chicken powder(chicken broth), rice, salt, and pepper. Give it a try!
